I cannot tell you all how proud of your students I am!  Our end of the year is quickly approaching and I am so excited about all of the growth every student has made in our class this year! We took our MAP reading and MAP math last week, and WOW!  I was so incredibly proud of this class.  They all took the test seriously and really tried their best, which is all I ask them to do every day!

We are beginning a project where we will build a habitat for an animal they have chosen to research.  Today, we started brainstorming ideas for each groups "zoo" and what they would need to make their zoo.

In math, we are working on money.  We've been discussing how much each coin is worth and beginning to use the money to make different amounts.  (ex. how can you make $.31 - students would show the different ways to make that amount).

The first grade PLAY is coming up next week!!! May 10 will be our performance at 6:30 pm.  If you know you are not able to attend please let me know as soon as possible.  Our class will be wearing GREEN shirts (these can be plain or have a small design) if your student does not have one, let me know and I can get one for your student.  The play is all about animals and students have been practicing the songs with Mrs. Bossworth in music.  We're beginning to practice on the risers this week to prepare for the performance.  We hope you can attend!

There are some dates coming up for Wellington Events I want to let you know about:

* First Grade play May 10 at 6:30
* May 14 the chorus will be singing at the Legends game!
* No School for Election day May 22
* May 24 - Talent show at 6:30 pm
* No school for Memorial Day May 28
* Wellington FUN day May 29!!
* First Grade End of the Year Awards program (ALL PARENTS INVITED) on May 31 at 10:15 in our classroom.  We have an end of the year picnic immediately following awards.

Thank you all!  Have a wonderful week!

Hi families!

I hope everyone was able to enjoy the few nice days we had before the chill came in last night!

For our field trip tomorrow please have students wear their blue Wellington shirt, or another Wellington shirt from Kindergarten is great too.  We will be back to school in time for lunch at school, just a little later than our usual lunch time so we will eat in the classroom.  Students can bring their normal lunch bags.

In math we're working on 2 digit subtraction this week.  87-15 = ___ is an example.  Students are really doing great with this!  Continue to check students agendas at night - we write a simple homework question there so you'll see some things we are working on in class!

In writing, students have started their new writing piece where they are writing a fictional narrative.  These are looking very interesting!

HERE is the link - please read all questions before sending in.  We would love to have as many volunteers as possible!

Hi families!

In your students folder they have two permission slips.  One is for a field trip we're taking to see Elephant and Piggy and the other is for a guest reader who will be bringing with them a dog (see the yellow form for more details).  We're excited for these upcoming events in First Grade!

Continue to read each night at home - your students are making so much growth with their reading and writing!!  Sight words are also so important to practice.  Here are some tools for practicing sight words at home:

I have a great new website with skills to practice in both reading and math.  Students will get their log ins tomorrow so if you'd like to work on some skills at home this will be a great place to visit for students.  Click HERE to access IXL - students will have their log in information tomorrow to bring home with them.

I love seeing pictures of my little readers at home so I thought I would share some that parents have sent me!  Send me pictures and I'll add them to our blog!

Ben hard at work on his reading!

Zoe reading her stack of books :)

Here are some photos of some of our young mathematicians hard at work breaking apart numbers during calendar!
