Week in Review
What a super week of learning we had last week! We're working on our handwriting, learning correct letter formations. We have started working in our Daily 5 groups with some read to self.

We met with our book buddies for the first time! We meet with third grade buddies once a week! This past week we spent time reading together.

Our first day of school we made magic playdough!  Here is the recipe, it was super simple and so fun!
Here’s the recipe:
1 cup of flour
1/2 cup of salt
2 tbsp. of oil {do NOT use olive oil!!!!}
2 tbsp. of cream of tartar
1 cup of water
(you will also need food coloring)
{this yields enough for about 6-8 students}

Our first day we got out our wiggles with some recess!  Yay for the monkey bars in first grade!

Hope to see you tomorrow night at Curriculum Night!

First Day of School

Our first day back to school was a huge success!  We learned a little about each other....met some of our new staff at Wellington....helped each other....played hard outside...ate a lunch...made some magic and shared lots of smiles!

Play dough for our first graders!  We made a wish for a super year!

And our play dough changed colors!

It was so fun seeing it change for the students!

Our students got a greeting from our new assistant principals: Mr. Downing and Mrs. Esenbach.

First graders excitement for the monkey bars was contagious!!

Tomorrow will be even better!  Learning more about each other and growing together.  I know this is going to be a fabulous year in first grade!

Don't forget to click HERE for the picture permission form for our blog.  Any paper work for school can be sent back in students blue folders and we'll get that out tomorrow.

Back to school!

Hello first graders and families!!

Today is my first day back to school, and I'm missing you all!

Parents: I'd love to have you volunteer!  If you are interested at any time HERE is a link for how to volunteer with our classroom.  You must fill this out if you would like to help out!

After you fill that out, I'd love to have you go HERE to let me know how you'd love to help our first graders grow!

I LOVE to put pictures on our blog of your kiddos, but I need your permission of course!  Please use this LINK to give permission for your student to be on the blog.

Here is a picture of our daily schedule.....

If you haven't had a chance to bring by your students supplies, I'll be at school today and all day tomorrow.  I'd be happy to get things ready for our first day if you want to drop things off!  That will make our first morning together run smoothly having their things ready for their day.

I am so excited for a fabulous year in first with your student!  Please don't hesitate to email me if you have any questions at all!  elizabeth.long@fayette.kyschools.us

Welcome to First Grade!

Welcome to First Grade!
I am so excited to be your teacher.  This is my 5 year at Wellington in First Grade, and my seventh year teaching!

A little about me............
Married to Doug..... for 5 years in September!
We have 2 sweet boys....

This is Reid.  He is almost 3 years old.

This is Hutton.  He just turned one!

Mr. Long and I love traveling although we don't get much time any more!  This is from the Outer Banks a few years ago!
I love to run!  (Although I'm not fast!)  I've completed 6 full marathons and 13 half marathons.  Mr. Long and I have traveled to different states for the marathons: Tennessee, Ohio, Georgia, Missouri, Alabama and Michigan.

Hutton's first birthday party!

Hutton this summer at his grandmothers house.

Reid and Hutton swimming.

A rare family picture of all four of us!

I love teaching! I spent almost 10 years in event planning before I decided to teach.  I am so happy I made the change, I love the excitement in our students faces and seeing them learn something new every day.  This is going to be a super year in First, I can't wait to get to know your special student and you!
