Hello families!

I sent out an email earlier today with information about our Valentine's day celebration.  If you would be available on Wednesday February 14 to help with some activities we would love to have some helpers.  There are also some supplies we will need for our activities, if you would be able to pick up some of these items it would help our class greatly!

If you would like to make a Valentines box with your student that is great but if you don't want to we will be making a valentines sack for students to use if that is preferred.  I'll have white paper bags available for kiddos to make their valentine bag on Wednesday.

Here is the link with more information SIGN UP information.

Our class had a FUN day painting our life size penguins earlier this week!  Here are some of our pictures.....................

We're using a new reading program at school and students have access at home now too! HERE a link for students.  There is a password - if students can't remember their at home let me know and I can print them another copy of their passwords.  This is a very interactive program that is working on skills we have used that week or the previous week at school.  It has been a great hit in the classroom so I think students will be excited to use it at home too.

We will take our spelling test tomorrow so please remind students to study their words so they are prepared for our test.  Don't forget to read their baggie books nightly and return on Friday so they'll have a new book for the next week.

Thank you all for your wonderful support!  This is such a wonderful group of kiddos to work with!

Hello families!
Welcome back to school!  I hope everyone had a restful and fun holiday break!  The students had a great day getting back into the swing of our routine and it was fun hearing about their fun activities over break!

On your students folders, I wrote a few reminders for what our homework is each night.  We don't have paper/pencil homework, instead students should practice their sight words and spelling words each night.  We take a spelling test on Fridays so daily practice helps them to do their best!  I also send home a baggie book for students to read with you Monday-Thursday (Note I did not send a new book home this week with the shorter week, one will be sent home on Monday!).  We also write an agenda note that is something we have been working on in class to talk with you about.  This helps students to talk about what they have been learning in class and reinforces what we're doing in the classroom.

(We do have new spelling words and sight words this week, but I won't give a test on Friday since we have the short week.)

Spelling words:
mail
chain
play
snail

rain

Sight words:

I'm excited to be back with your students!  We begin our penguin unit tomorrow which is always so much for to learn about with students!

I did want to let you all know I shared some news about my family with students today!  My husband and I are going to be welcoming a new baby to our family this summer!  We're so excited and I was over the moon to share with our class today!

Thank you all for all of your support, this has been a fantastic year and I know it will only continue to get better!

November 27, 2017

Hello families!

We are back at it and learning so much this week!  In language we're working on past and future tense verbs.  Ask your student to tell you a verb in the past tense and then in future tense this week to work on this at work!

In comprehension we're working on cause and effect.  We read a book today called Interrupting Chicken and talked about how the chicken interrupts others so it causes his dad to be tired :)!

In phonics we are learning a difficult skill of using "soft c" where the C makes an S sound in the word - like in mice.  We're also learning about "soft g" that the G makes a J sound.  Working on their spelling words at home is very helpful in learning these skills.  Try having students write their words with their fingers after they tell you the word.  We write our words in the air too to help us!

In math we're working on subtraction word problems and understanding what our word problem is asking.

In writing, we are beginning a how to writing piece, where students are the expert and teaching another student how to do something through their writing!

Spelling Words:

age
ledge
nice
page
rice
wedge
from
once

Sight words:

any

happy

We have a great week coming up at Wellington.  On Tuesday we will be having a Story book Character day where students can dress up as their favorite storybook character.

Our Junie B Jones Jamboree is also tomorrow (Tuesday).  We are celebrating the books we have been reading with some fun activities.  If you have any small pumpkins you would be able to donate to our class - we are still 13 pumpkins short for all students to have for our afternoon pumpkin investigation.  We will be measuring, determining if they sink or float, and making estimations about our pumpkins.  This is a fun afternoon of learning for our students!  Thank you all for your help in preparing for this day!

Happy Monday families!

We're back at it today and learning so much!  In Language this week we are beginning to focus on singular and plural nouns.  For comprehension we're focusing on retelling our stories with partners and will later in the week write about what we have read.  In phonics our skill is short 'u' this week.  We are beginning a new writing piece soon about our opinion.

In math our focus is on using commutative property.  Today we used a balance to make both sides of our equations equal.

Last week we had fun using what we had learned about community helpers and made cut outs of our faces to show what we want to be!
